1970 Plymouth Road Runner

The Plymouth Road Runner was a mid-size car with a focus on performance, built by Plymouth in the United States between 1968 and 1980. By 1968, some of the original muscle cars were moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they had gained features and increased in price. Plymouth decided to developed the Road Runner to market as a lower priced, basic trim model to its upscale GTX.

The 1970 model year brought a new front and rear end look to the basic 1968 body, and it proved to be a success. Updates included a new grille, a cloth & vinyl bench seat, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, single-piston Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes (improved from the rather small-rotor Bendix 4 piston calipers of ‘68 - ‘69 ), and even non-functional scoops in the rear quarters. “High Impact” colors, with names like In-Violet, Moulin Rouge, and Vitamin C, were options available for that year. And the standard engine was an exclusive 383 cu in (6.3 L) “Roadrunner” V8 engine rated at 335 bhp (250 kW) and 425 lb·ft (576 N·m) of torque, and a three-speed manual became the standard transmission.

Khalid Al Jabir purchased his beauty less then a year ago. He had the Roadrunner shipped over from the US in its original condition and has left everything as standard. An avid collector of classic cars including a 1969 Camaro, a 1968 charger, a ‘66 Mustang and a 63 Corvette Khalid is no stranger to the timeless beauty and allure that these cars have. He told me he decided to add the 1970 Plymouth to his collection as it was a very rare find and has now become and incredibly expensive collectable. It’s road runner speed and the classic ‘beep beep’ of the horn are what sealed the deal for this classic car junkie. Khalid takes great pride in showing the automobile all over the GCC from Kuwait to Qatar at classic car shows, and has even won several prizes and awards for this particular model. Although he only takes the car out for a drive once or twice a month, he assures me it is a real pleasure to drive and is also a comfortable ride.
