Arabia Motors Reviews the new Ram Range.

2013 Ram 1500

The Middle East is one of the key markets selected to spearhead the Ram brand’s expansion outside of North America, where it has achieved significant success since becoming a stand-alone brand in 2009. The brand, which only makes trucks, has rapidly built a strong reputation as a truck specialist and it looks as though Ram also listens to their customers. The result is an expanded Ram 1500 line-up with many more regular cab and crew cab options, plus the addition of a metric ton pickup, which completes the Ram line-up and allows them to compete in a segment where they were previously absent. The Ram 1200 metric ton pickup, which joins a much-expanded line-up of larger, highly capable Ram 1500 trucks, gives the brand access to the largest truck segment in the Middle East with the majority of new models available in showrooms straight away. Our truck specialist Sameer Uchi was invited out to Dubai to test out the new line of models, and here is our quick review…of what’s out there on the showroom floors.

RAM 1200

The Dodge Ram 1200 is a commercial pickup offering from the American brand, which is basically a rebadged Mitsubishi L200. It is available in two-wheel-drive form with a 2.4-litre petrol engine or a 2.5-litre turbo diesel, or in four-wheel-drive form with the diesel engine only. At present only the five-speed manual is currently offered here, with an automatic option set to come later. Choices in body styles include double cab or single cab. Perfect for those who as part of their daily work, need to reach areas that are off the beaten track or drive on tough off-road trails.

RAM 1500

Few vehicles have such broad appeal as a full-size pickup, but the 1500, with nearly three dozen configurations, is definitely an exception to the rule. Looking for a light-duty pickup with clever outside-the-box thinking? The 2017 Ram 1500’s unique coil-spring rear suspension gives it a smooth unloaded ride, but it can still tow your trailer like a champ with its stout gasoline V8 or torque turbo diesel V6. Excellent cargo management options and an attractive interior complete the package. It’s a great choice for a do-all truck. A smooth ride and an intuitive infotainment system make the 1500 a pleasure to live with. It appeals to those looking for an affordable truck without compromising on design. Sheer Luxury trucking.

RAM 2500

Comfortable and capable, the 2500 is a muscular workhorse that can be outfitted plain or fancy. Fairly civilized in everyday driving, with wind and tire noise nicely suppressed. The coil spring rear suspension makes the heavy-duty Ram’s ride smoother and more comfortable than you might expect. Mind you, there’s no getting around a firm ride quality in a truck built to tow and haul this much, but that suspension certainly makes the ride less bumpy and skittish. The Power Wagon feels stiffer on pavement, but its modified front suspension, hill descent control, electronically disconnecting sway bar and locking differentials significantly increase off-road performance. If you’re looking for a pickup and find that regular light-duty 1500-series trucks can’t meet your towing or payload requirements, it’s time to step up to a heavy-duty workhorse from Ram.
