THE DUCATI XDIAVEL STIRS UP THE RIGHT KIND OF EMOTION
Motorcycles are all about emotion – it is about connecting with the machine, with the elements and the tarmac. What enhances said emotion is when you have a marvel of engineering between your legs, and Ducati seems to know just how to produce perfection on two wheels.
Take that side-exit twin exhaust for example – it has to be the highlight of the side-profile of the XDiavel. So is that phat rear tire – the XDiavel looks almost like a custom job than a factory cruiser. Brembo brakes feature as standard, as are adjustable forward controls. That semi-slick looking rear tire is a Pirelli Diablo Rosso-2 meauring 240/45-17. The front end is raked to 30 degrees.
The XDiavel is powered by a new edition of the tried-and-true Testastretta 11° 1198cc V-twin, enlarged to 1262cc by stroking it from the standard 67.9 to 71.5mm while retaining the 106mm bore. With DVT variable valve timing it is the most flexible Ducati motor, delivering 156 peak horsepower at 9,500 rpm, but with peak torque up to 95 lb.-ft. at a mere 5,000 rpm for super-smooth driveability and instantaneous throttle response. The rich electronics suite also includes launch control to aid in super hard launches. For the first time on a Ducati, power is sent to the rear tire via means of a rubber belt. The engine acts as a stressed member in the short front trellis frame while a new, compact exhaust system is tucked underneath the engine.
